In short, that’s NYE in an LBD
I had travelled to the UK to meet my friend from school. We spent a couple of days in her dorm on University campus. Among other fun things, she let me keep her copy of Glamour (the magazine). While flipping through the pages, I was introduced to Sheena Matheiken.

Like this Glamour.com blog post, the article spotlighted Sheena in the earlier stages of her project. I was very intrigued. Some months later, I came across the Uniform Project on facebook. I saw that it had gone through a growth spurt. A very inspiring one at that!

To ring out the old and bring in the new year, The Uniform Project had an LBD Friday. You could join the party by posting a picture of yourself in your favourite LBD on new year’s eve. Hashtag the picture #LBDnye on twitter or share on their facebook wall.
Of course, I wanted to do my bit. And it was perfect because I planned on wearing an LBD anyway.
What I wore: A little black dress bought in Shenzhen, China, a necklace with a pendant shaped like a dress and neon pink gladiators, both bought in Bangkok, Thailand. It was my own ‘dress on a dress’ variation.😀
Sheena started the Uniform Project from scratch and it has now grown manifold. She has sent more than 287 kids to school. But more importantly, she had fun with it and proved and validated sustainable fashion.
It makes me want to do so many things. Starting with, going back to St. Catherine’s Home where I spent two months with HIV positive girls. It makes me want to concentrate on my upcyclng. And most importantly, be resolute and hopeful because there is a bright future ahead.
